Galleria d’Arte - Historic Collin County Prison

We would like to extend our thanks to our patrons of the last 2 1/2 years.  We have made so many wonderful friends and acquaintances it is with a heavy heart that we will permanently close our doors on December 24, 2007..

Formerly a bookshop and café, the prison affords many new venues for Carrie Garner, owner of Galleria d’Arte. Garner is pleased to announce the opening of the MeSo Wine Lounge. Specializing in fine quality wines and premier beers, the lounge will feature a daily selection of cheeses and antipastos and will offer a selection of coffees, teas, and daily dessert specials, all of which will be baked on premises. Located on the first floor of the building, MeSo’s comfortable and hip atmosphere is the perfect compliment to Galleria d’Arte’s works of art and is certain to become a favorite downtown destination.

Carrie Garner’s Galleria d’Arte features original works of art by local area artists. Specializing in oil paintings, pottery, blown glass, and jewelry, Galleria d’Arte offers a wide variety of one-of-a-kind masterpieces for art lovers of all kinds. Resident artist & gallery owner, Carrie Garner, paints in a technique known as oil sculpture, and is an expressionist painter. Carrie's works begin by sculpting the oil paints first, then applies them to the canvas with pallet knives. Carrie's bold compositions leap off the canvas with bright, vibrant colors, applied in rich, flowing multi-dimensional layers. Carrie's biography

Carrie Garner’s Galleria d’Arte hosts a monthly art reception the second Saturday evening of every month, where we debut the newest works of art by a featured guest artist. Gallery guests are treated to live entertainment, appetizers, spirits, and of course, relaxed time with the featured guest artist. Evening Events Page

With over 450 guests at each reception, the evening is a lively celebration of the arts. A number of other downtown McKinney businesses extend their hours too, Alternative Furnishings, Bling, Orisons Art & Framing, & Poppy's Garden Café, providing several choices for both visual and epicurean delights. Once you experience the energy of these evenings, we are certain Second Saturdays will become a “must do” event on your social calendar.

Susan Hanson, Kimm Lanus, Michael Longhofer, and JD Miller, are among Carrie Garner’s Galleria d’Arte’s favorite “house artists.” These extremely talented artisans have been our featured guest artists, and we proudly display a limited number of creations by each artist. Whether your tastes lean to abstract, mixed media, spiritual, cityscapes or landscapes, Carrie Garner’s Galleria d’Arte will satisfy your search for that perfect piece of art.

Jewelry

Agnes Williamson and Inga Adams are Galleria d’Arte’s permanent jewelry artists. Agnes’ creations feature semi-precious and natural stones. Feminine without being overly delicate, Agnes’ designs are appealing to females of all ages. Earring, bracelets, and necklaces comprise Agnes’ jewelry line.

Inga Adams believes that every outfit needs a “drop-dead” accessory, and with one look at Inga’s designs, you know she practices what she preaches. Whether set in brass or sterling silver, Inga’s bold and ultra-unique jewelry creations make a fashion statement wherever they go. Hematite, turquoise, fresh water pearls, jasper, and amber, to name just a few, are among the stones found in Inga’s necklaces. The artist plans to expand her offerings to include earrings and bracelets in the near future.

Pottery

Award-winning pottery artist Joni Beamish is on permanent display at Galleria a’Arte. The artist signs each piece, and you will see that Joni’s use of patterns and textures makes every piece interesting on both the exterior and the interior. Platters, bowls, and lamps are some of Joni’s current offerings.

Scott Henderson is our second pottery artist at Galleria d’Arte. Scott focuses on large urns and Asian-style teapots. His distinctive style and finishing touches brings his one-of-a-kind pottery sculptures to life.

Both artists create pottery that is not only beautiful but also functional. All glazes are non-toxic and are specially created by each potter. Any piece of pottery you collect will make a wonderful addition to your home décor AND to your entertaining venue.

Blown Glass

Architects by day, the father and son team of Ron and Chris Marrs complete the permanent artists at Carrie Garner’s Galleria d’Arte. MarrsArt glass creations are brilliantly colored glass sculptures. The pieces resonate with sparkle and shine throughout the gallery, and of course, each creation is unique and signed and dated by the artists.
